According to reports, in order to increase the potential of various videos on its platform, TikTok confirmed that it is testing a new option to upload 15 minutes of video. By increasing the video length limit by 5 minutes, TikTok will intensify its competition with YouTube.
TikTok’s popularity has risen rapidly, largely due to the development of its short video. At present, all major social media applications have copied its short video function in various forms. However, in recent years, TikTok has expanded the upload time to diversify its content production. It started with a 15-second clip, expanded to 1 minute, then 3 minutes, 5 minutes, and increased to 10 minutes in February 2022.
In March of this year, TikTok also launched a 20-minute video for paying users, which allows creators in a specific market to put full-length videos in the paid area as premium content for subscribers. TikTok’s new test aims to extend the upload limit for all users to 15 minutes. Tiktok extended the upload limit to 30 minutes last year. Tiktok tried to follow in Tik Tok’s footsteps, and the company believed that the longer the video, the more time users could spend on the application, and the greater the potential of various types of advertisements.
Once this upgrade is implemented, it will improve the competition between TikTok and mainstream YouTube with long videos, and may attract more creators to join the platform. At present, the two companies continue to imitate each other, and YouTube launched the Shorts function in 2020 to cope with the sudden popularity of TikTok among users and advertisers.
